KUALA LUMPUR April 17 - The Malaysian Network Information Centre (Mynic) Thursday launched its "Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy Service (Mydrp)" to resolve disputes between the registrant of a .my top-level domain and a third party with regards to competing rights over the use of a domain name.
A statement from the company Thursday said any dispute resolution would be governed by terms set out in Mynic's Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy, and any party wanting to use the MYDRP or participate in a domain dispute resolution proceeding, must comply with these terms.
Mynic, a division of MIMOS Berhad, was designated as the country code top level domain (ccTLD) manager in 1987.
In addition to the operation and management of the name space for the .my top level domain (TLD), it administers six second level domain, namely .com.my, .net.my, .org.my, .edu.my, .gov.my and .mil.my.
Globally, disputes arising from the alleged abusive registration of generic top level domain (gTLD), such as .com and .net are filed with and arbitrated by approved dispute-resolution service providers appointed by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
More information on this is available on ICANN's website (www.icann.org), the statement said.
Mynic, however, said that before participating in a proceeding governed by Mydrp, parties were strongly encouraged to first explore the possibility of settling disputes through negotiations, mediation, conciliation or any other alternative dispute resolution process.
The remedies offered as part of MYNIC's Domain Name Dispute Resolution Service would include transferring or deleting domain name registrations, it said.
It said further information on the service could be obtained by calling 03-8657 7008, faxing to 03-8657 9430, or through e-mailing to domreg@mynic.net.my.
Information is also available at: www.mynic.net.my.
