PETALING JAYA Jan 22 - Malaysian teenage footballers Rudie Ramli and Mohammed Fadzli Shaari are headed for Germany after signing contracts with German third division club, SV Wehen 1926, today.

The simple signing ceremony at Wisma FAM, here, was witnessed by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) deputy president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

Rudie, 19, and Fadzli, 18, who have had stints with SV Wehen previously, have signed on as a semi professional contract players with the third division club, with their contracts run from Feb 1 to June 30.

Signing up with SV Wehen is indeed a tremendous boost to their careers and Tengku Abdullah said the two players had a great opportunity.

"It is a historic day for football in our country. We now have four young players and one even younger in Europe. FAM has always taken youth development seriously and we will continue to support such programmes," he said.

"The experience will help them develop into better players. They will also learn what it is like to be professional football players. These players have been given a great opportunity and they must take full advantage of it," added Tengku Abdullah.

He said, in the broader perspective, the nation will gain by having two quality players who will be able to contribute significantly to the national team. They will also be able to share their experiences from playing in Germany and pass on some valuable tips to their teammates at home.

Rudie, from Selangor, and Fadzli, from Pahang, are scheduled to leave for Germany on Feb 1 and will begin training with their club a few days after their arrival. SV Wehen is based at Wiesbaden, which is about 40km from Frankfurt.

FAM thanked Holger Obermann, the former technical adviser to the Youth Department and Matthias van der Straeten, from the German Embassy here for all their assistance.

"We hope the German Embassy will help us identify more clubs like Wehen where we can send our players to," Tengku Abdullah said.

Straeten said that he was confident the Malaysians would do well.

"They were very impressive and that's why they were offered the contracts," Straeten said.

He said that the boys would receive DM3,000 (about RM5,500) a month.

In addition to this, the two players will also receive RM3,000 each from FAM every month under a new players welfare scheme which was revealed by Tengku Abdullah today.

Apart from Rudie and Fadzli, there are two other Malaysian players - Akmal Rizal and Juzaili Samion - who are currently playing in France with FC Haguenau. Another youngster, Titus James, is attached to a football academy in France.
